Hey! So glad you want to learn more about In The Waiting, formerly known as Abby’s Unexpected Journey. I serve the dreamers, adventure seekers, and wheelchair users who just wants their life to be accessible, by testing and creating new methods to gain independence.
I am always asked to share my story and how I got to where I am now. I found that people in a position like mine, in a wheelchair, want to be independent and have a good life but they don’t know where to look for advice. So I share tips and tricks on what has helped my independence effectively for the past 6 years (and learning new ones with you) and get you back to the life you want. This will also encourage loved ones to understand the best way to “help” and how they can help encourage you to reach your potential.
When you are stuck in the waiting and want your independence so badly, it is easy to become frustrated. Trust me, my hands don’t work so i’ve definitely been frustrated. It can be the hardest moment of your life, but it’s these moments that I find the most valuable. It is when your patience, strength, and faith is tested. YOU have the decision to push harder, take courage, and fight for what you want. If you want to accomplish your dreams, then you have to put some work in, stop listening to the negativity in your life, and celebrate the smallest changes toward independence.
I decided to change the brand of the blog after I experienced a very heavy season of life, thanks to insecurities of being in a wheelchair. During that season, it was very difficult to even find the courage to leave my house or get out of bed. Most days, I just wanted life to be over, it sounded easier than what I was facing. It was probably the lowest I’ve ever been since my car accident (that left me as a quadriplegic). But if it wasn’t for my faith and strong support system I don’t know where I would be today. Sounds cheesy but it’s true. They encouraged me towards achieving independence and I believe that you can gain independence too, you just have to figure out the best methods!
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
That I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
